Theatre 20's Bloodless - The Trial of Burke and Hare comes recommended
Actor/DJ/entertainer Don Berns posts the following theatre recommendation on Facebook:
Last night I went to see Theatre 20's Bloodless - The Trial of Burke and Hare at The Panasonic Theatre. The mandate of this group is to produce new Canadian musicals and they have chosen a complete and utter winner as their inaugural production. Compelling, intelligent, even funny in spots (considering the subject matter-Burke and Hare takes place in 19th century Scotland where these two men, not co
ntent to wait for people to die so they can sell the corpses to a medical school, end up killing perfectly healthy people-the humour is quite dark), this show is excellent in all regards: the acting, lighting and staging is superb ( director Adam Brazier once again proves himself a master with a minimalistic set) and the music is nothing short of brilliant...at times bringing to mind Gilbert and Sullivan and Stephen Sondheim. In fact, to compare this show to Sweeney Todd is not unreasonable.
Highly---highly---highly recommended!!!
