List of XM spreads

There are several ways to apply spreads in XM. Here are some of the different types.

Variable & fixed spreads

As a XM trader, you can expect variable spreads for the duration of your dealings with the broker. As a market maker, XM does not offer fixed spread options.

This variable spread you receive is very competitive and in most cases this also means that you can get away with no commission on most transactions, depending on the type of XM account you are operating.

Commodity spreads

In total, XM offers a very wide range of trading instruments. This includes 55 currency pairs of all types, CFD trading on shares, commodities, metals, indices and cryptocurrency trading.

All these spreads are without requotes and are generally very competitive overall.

Spreads on forex pairs usually start at 0-1 pips. Spreads on the other assets we will look at are also competitive.

The only commission that needs to be accounted for when trading with XM occurs when trading forex with a XM zero account. Even then, the price is a reasonable $3.50 per trading lot.

Account spread

In more detail, let's look at how the spread affects each of the XM accounts.

standard account

The most commonly chosen XM account type is described first: the XM standard account is available under all regulatory bodies. The spreads you can expect here as a trader start at 1 pip on major forex pairs.

As with many account types, there are no fees here.

micro-account

The XM microaccount is available in all regulated jurisdictions and is an ideal starting point if you want to trade for just a little less.

XM Similar to standard account spreads, starting at just one pip on major FX pairs, no commission is charged.

Nil account

This is where the XM Zero account spread begins to deviate just a little from the normal XM model.

This account type is only available under CySEC, FCA and most countries (except Australia) regulated under the XM Global Markets umbrella, but starts at 0 pips on the same major FX pairs.

Commission is charged here and this is charged at $3.50 per lot at the start and at the end, so a total of $7 for one lot of round trades. Again, this is not bad for a major forex broker.

ultra-low account

The XM Ultra Low Account is only available in Australia and is effectively the Australian version of the XM Zero Account.

Here, spreads start at a slightly higher 0.6 pips and there are no commissions to worry about.

Professional account

If you live in Europe and meet certain criteria, you can open a XM Professional account.

There may be certain spread advantages that you get as a XM Professional Trader, but this is something you need to check by contacting the XM support team.

Shears Account

To open a XM Equity account, you must reside in the XM Global Markets region. This account type is not available to current residents of the EU or Australia.

The equity account type is only available through XM's MT5 trading platform. Note that in this case, commissions are charged depending on the shares traded and hedging is not permitted in this particular market.

Spread reviews on various assets.

We now take a closer look at how the XM spread is applied to individual assets traded through brokers.

Forex

As a XM trader, you have access to over 55 currency pairs, major, minor and exotic. In this you can expect no hidden fees at all with XM. Everything is very clear and transparent when it comes to their operations.

If you are a XM zero account holder, you can expect to incur a commission of $7 per round turn on trades per lot.

EURUSD 1.7 1.7 0.1 + $3.5 per $100,000 of transaction value 0.8

EURGBP 2.0 2.0 0.3 + $3.5 per $100,000 of transaction value 1.1

commodity

XM Commodity Trading facilitates trading in eight commodity markets. These also only show minimum spreads through the broker's website, which may vary from market to market.

There is also no difference in this spread based on the type of account you have or the regulatory body you are operating under, and again, you do not have to worry about any fees on these transactions.

XM offers trading in four metal markets. Both the palladium and platinum markets are traded as CFDs.

Commission-free trading is also available on this market; spreads vary slightly when trading under ASIC regulation. For other institutions, they should be consistent.

Trading in XM Energy is currently available on five markets. These markets are volatile and prices and spreads may change regularly. However, there are no commissions for trading these assets. There is also no oil rollover.

Again, only minimum spreads are shown on the XM website. These are subject to change depending on the market and there is no difference in spreads based on your account or type of regulation.

XM Commodities Spread standard account micro-account zeroaccount (e.g. bank) ultra-low account
GOLD 0.35 0.35 0.21 + $3.5 per $100,000 of transaction value 0.25

UK OIL 0.05 0.05 0.05 + $3.5 per $100,000 of transaction value 0.05

index

XM index CFD trading is available on more than 15 global index markets.

There are no fees for these transactions, and they do not vary by account type or regulatory body, but simply correspond to the individual markets themselves.

US 500. 0.7 0.7 0.7 0.7
NASDAQ 2.0 2.0 2.0 2.0
FTSE 100 1.5 1.5 1.5 1.5

shares

A review of XM's share trading as a CFD shows that the list of available companies covers the entire world. To trade shares, you need a XM share account. This account is only available on the MT5 trading platform to facilitate these markets.

Furthermore, this account type is only available when regulated under the IFSC's global market umbrella.

This account is the only XM commission-based account, with minimum commissions set by country as follows.

  • USA - 1.0 US$, 4.0
  • United Kingdom - $9.0, 0.1
  • Germany - $5.0 USD, 0.1

As the table below shows, this still puts the XM deal in a very competitive range.

XM Shares Spread Shears Account
US STOCKS. 0.04 per share, but with a minimum commission of $1 per transaction.
UK STOCKS. There is a commission of 0.101 TP4T per transaction, with a minimum commission of USD 9.
EU STOCKS. German shares cost 0.101 TP4T per trade, with a minimum commission of USD 5.
